Date Barfi (burfee)


I love everything mithai but I have a special love for all things burfi. Today I present you all with date burfi. It’s one of my faves. It’s super easy to make and just so delicious.

Date Barfi (burfee)


  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 cups milk powder 
  • 1 cup khoya
  • 2 tsp cardamom powder 
  • 2 healthy pinches saffron
  • 1 cup pitted dates 
  • 1 cup almond powder


  • Add the milk, butter, sugar,khoya and milk powder in a nonstick pan and mix well. Let it come to a boilstirring constantly. 
    When it reaches a full boil, turn down the heat. 
    Put your putted dates into a food processor and add a ladle of the hotmixture. Process it till it becomes a smooth paste.
    Now add that to the milk mixture and keep stirring till it becomesthick and starts sticking to the sides. This should take about 10 minutes.
    When it’s thick and almost like a dough ish consistency, add it to aprepared sheet pan. Prepare your sheet pan by adding parchment paper and thegreasing the top with ghee. 
    Pour your mixture on top and let it cool. 
    Add your silver leaf and  rose petals andenjoy!
