Creamy Lemon Spaghetti


This creamy lemon spaghetti is the stuff my food dreams are made of. It’s creamy, tangy and the basil add a pop of freshness. Oh so so good. We all devour this every single time that I make it! It’s a great dish to make when you’re short on time because it’s incredibly easy to make and is so incredibly flavourful. You can keep it as is for a great vegetarian meal or you can add grilled chicken or shrimp for extra protein. 


Creamy Lemon Spaghetti


  • 1 package spaghetti 
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 cloves of crushed garlic or to taste
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • Salt to taste 
  • Red pepper flakes to taste
  • 1 -2 cups pasta water
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil leaves finely chopped
  • 1 cup ricotta
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese to taste


  • Boil your pasta according to package instructions but remove it when it’s 90% done and reserve the pasta water. 
    In a heavy bottom pan add the butter and 1 tablespoon olive oil and let that melt. Once that’s almost melted add the onions and garlic and sauté them till they are translucent and fragrant.
    Now add your crushed garlic, lemon zest, salt to taste and half the pasta water 
    Give that a good stir and add your spaghetti. Mix that really well and add more pasta water if needed. 
    Fold in the fresh basil and the lemon juice. Mix that well and add the ricotta cheese. Stir till it reaches a creamy consistency. Fold in 1/2 the freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Plate your pasta to your liking. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and freshly cracked pepper.
